Rector’s Forum & Children’s Christian Formation

Our adult “Sunday School” class, the Rector’s Forum, explores a wide range of topics, from the lives of saints to insights from experts across various fields. Led by our rector and guest speakers, the Forum meets most Sundays at 11:15 a.m. in the Parish Life Center. This gathering is more than a class—it’s a community experience that fosters growth and connection, coinciding with our Heavenly Hosts hospitality.

Children’s Christian Formation, starting from Kindergarten through 8th grade, also meets at 11:15 a.m. in designated classrooms. High school students typically gather during EYC meetings on select Sunday evenings or at activities with other youth across the Diocese.

Children’s Ministries

Children’s Chapel, designed for Pre-K through early elementary age, meets during the 10 a.m. service, processing in after the choir. This timing allows for more meaningful engagement with lessons and Godly Play. Older elementary children often assist as helpers. Our summer VBS attracts children from the broader community, while our Advent Festival offers volunteer opportunities for high school youth and fun for younger members. The Christmas pageant sees enthusiastic participation from children, youth, and parents alike, featuring puppeteers, narrators, and a lively cast of characters. During Mardi Gras, we symbolically “bury” our “Alleluias,” only to reveal them again on Easter Sunday. High school youth enjoy “Sunday Funday” activities and group events with other Diocesan youth.

Outreach

Our outreach ministries focus on providing nourishment, warmth, and care to those in need within the larger community. These efforts are led by dedicated volunteers who generously give their time and resources. Holy Apostles also contributes financially to various local, regional, and international outreach agencies. Key outreach ministries include:

  • Little Free Pantry: Stocked with non-perishable and shelf-stable foods, our Little Free Pantry provides emergency provisions for food-insecure neighbors. Managed by volunteers, it bridges the gap between paychecks or benefits. In September 2023, Holy Apostles donated a new pantry to the Church of the Holy Cross in Olive Branch, Miss.
  • MIFA Meals-On-Wheels: Our volunteers deliver meals to elderly residents in north Collierville who have difficulty leaving their homes. This service provides essential nutrition and social contact, ensuring a friendly face checks in on them regularly. Our team delivers once a month, in coordination with other organizations to ensure consistent support.
  • More-Than-A-Meal (MTAM): Holy Apostles’ volunteers staff the kitchen on the fourth Sunday of each month and serve meals at Grace-St. Luke’s MTAM ministry. Our volunteers also provide snacks like fruit cups and Nutri-Grain bars for guests to take with them. We fill Christmas gift bags with food items each Christmas, and volunteers serve dinner and distribute the bags to MTAM guests on Christmas Eve.

Pastoral Care

This compassionate group addresses the needs of our congregation as identified by the parish staff. Their care often includes prayers, sympathy, and get-well cards. They also provide meals or refreshments after funerals or memorial services. The committee meets periodically to prepare casseroles stored in the church freezer and delivered to those needing comfort and nourishment. New volunteers are always welcome to join this vital ministry.
